School-Aged Children, Teens and Mental Health Our bodies and minds go through a lot of change as we grow. This can be overwhelming, especially when things don't seem to be going the way they should. Every child goes through good and bad times. These challenges are a part of growing up and learning important skills for becoming independent. When sad, angry, fearful, or defiant behaviours last for a long time, they may be a sign of a larger problem. About one in every five children in Ontario suffers from a mental, emotional or behavioural illness that will affect their daily routine at home and school. School-Aged Children, Teens and Developmental Disabilities Developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autism, and Asperger's Disorder are lifelong conditions. They may affect a child's success at school, a child's ability to make friends and participate in social activities. Caregivers need lots of support to help people with developmental disabilities lead happy and full lives. Trellis provides a range of services to help with behavioural issues and to support the family.
