Diversity

Our Code of Ethics
Staff are accountable to the people they serve, to their profession(s), to Trellis Mental Health and Developmental Services and to the community at large.  The following represents a general code of ethics for all staff employed by Trellis:

We put our clients at the centre of what we do.  We believe in understanding and helping the whole person and his or her health needs in a holistic and recovery-oriented way.

Conflict of Interest
We protect private, confidential and privileged information.

Consistency
We apply policies and procedures consistently throughout Trellis and in our external relationships.

Setting and Meeting High Standards
We conduct all our activities in a manner that reflects the highest clinical and business standards, individually and corporately.

Employee Covenants
Given the sensitive nature of the work we do, employees have access and are party to confidential information which they must safeguard.  In support of this, our offer of employment is conditional upon employees agreeing to, and abiding by employment covenants outlining confidentiality in accordance with PHIPA and PIPEDA, conflict of interest, workplace conduct, use of agency property, non-solicitation and legal remedies. Complying with Trellis' policies and codes is mandatory.

Work-Life Balance

Vacation
In keeping with our commitment to work-life balance, Trellis offers a generous vacation entitlement in addition to float holidays.  Time away from work benefits the agency by helping employees renew energy.

Orientation
The saying goes, "you don't get a second chance to make a first impression".  Right from the initial interview, candidates are provided with a job prospectus supplying the mission, vision, values of the agency and outlining the role, benefits, and compensation offered.  Our offer of employment provides candidates with information they'll need to make an informed decision.

Recognizing that new employees are inundated with information when they join, our orientation program is delivered in modules over the course of the probation period, and includes information on the following:

  • Position to which they have been hired
  • Agency
  • Human Resources and Health & Safety
  • Risk and Privacy
  • Client Staff Interaction Safety (CSIS) training

Finally, over the course of the first six months of employment, there will be a continual checking in to ensure that you have the necessary tools and support to be successful in your new role.

Our orientation program is aimed at integrating employees into the culture of Trellis; ensuring new incumbents understand how their role impacts the agency, as well as defining expectations and outcomes.

Performance and Career Development

Performance Management
A formal performance management programme is an integral component of the Trellis work environment. Trellis has defined a clear process to setting goals, managing progress and reviewing overall performance. The objectives of the performance management process are as follows:

  • Establish clear responsibilities and accountabilities for each position
  • Create objectives unique to each employee and role
  • Monitor performance progress and provide consistent and timely feedback
  • Evaluate overall year-end results against established performance objectives

Career Development
At Trellis, development is a shared responsibility. We encourage peer interaction and mentoring. The best mentoring partnerships are formed when the employee takes the initiative, by talking to peers, searching out people with experience, subject matter experts and your supervisor.
